Rockford Rivets fall to Kenosha Kingfish in extras after weather delay
LOVES PARK, Ill. (WIFR) - Despite scoring 2 runs in the 6th inning to tie the game, the Rockford Rivets lost to the Kenosha Kingfish 6-2 in 10 innings Wednesday night.
The game was scoreless through the first 3 innings. Lightning in the area in the top of the 4th inning delayed the game 57 minutes.
Jacob Vokal got Kenosha on the board with an RBI double to left field. Then Cole Edwards fields Will Matuszak’s bunt but can’t connect on the throw to get him out. Rivets trailed 2-0.
Rockford responded in the bottom of the sixth. Conner Cunningham grounded into a double play with the bases loaded for the first 2 outs of the inning. Sam Flores scored from 3rd base to make it a 2-1 game.
Jayce Blalock came in to pinch-hit for the next batter. Ty Waid scored on Blalock’s single to left to tie the game.
Ryan Bakes hit a 3-run home run in the top of the 10th inning to give the Kingfish a 5-2 lead. They add another run later in the inning. Rivets would lose the game 6-2.
Rivets will play the Kingfish at 6:05 p.m. Thursday.
